Job title: Voluntary Chaplaincy Pastoral Worker to the Cameron Toll Chaplaincy Project

Accountability: The Chaplaincy Pastoral Worker will work closely in association with the Cameron Toll Chaplaincy Steering Group and will report to/be accountable to the Cameron Toll Chaplaincy Steering Group or its representative.

Role of the Chaplaincy Pastoral Worker
  • To work closely in conjunction with their job-share colleague.
  • To develop a Christian presence in Cameron Toll Shopping Centre.
  • To establish and develop contact with the Cameron Toll Shopping Centre management and retail businesses in the Cameron Toll Shopping Centre.
  • To offer a chaplaincy-visiting role to retail businesses within the Cameron Toll Shopping Centre.
  • To offer pastoral support and care to those working at the Cameron Toll Shopping Centre.
  • To be available to members of the public in the Cameron Toll Shopping Centre who may seek Christian ministry in some form.
  • To represent the churches of Newington Churches Together (NCT) and South East Edinburgh Churches Acting Together (SEECAT) in the Cameron Toll Shopping Centre and raise their profile in the retailing community, but not to advocate any one individual church.
Person Specification

Essential:   
  • Have good interpersonal skills and be a good listener. 
  • Be non-judgmental, self-motivated, have pastoral sensitivity and be flexible.
  • Have previous involvement in Christian ministry a live Christian faith and a Church membership.
Desirable:
  • Experience of teamwork or job sharing.
  • Experience of being a Christian in the workplace. 
  • Have counselling skills
  • Some knowledge of the retail work culture.   
The terms and conditions
Hours of work will be 4 hours per week for one year with an opportunity to carry on, flexible, to be agreed with the steering group and job-share colleague. The project will be reviewed after one year or sooner if required. One month’s notice of termination will be required from the post holder, to be given by the Cameron Toll Chaplaincy Steering Group.

Remuneration
The post is voluntary, but agreed out-of-pocket expenses will be paid and a small allowance made for telephone calls and occasional hospitality.
